Resources – Cotton Rope

Cotton rope/cord is one of the most versatile fibers to use. It is a staple for macrame but it works really well in weavings too.

It is hard to pick a favorite seller. I love UnfetteredCo on Etsy. Not only do they have a great selection of ropes/cord and colors, they have all sorts of other fibers and frames that I love.

GANXXET is also high quality seller, who you can also find on Etsy. They also sell on Amazon, which makes them also convenient. This one is a soft single strand cotton cord. This works beautifully in weavings; because of soft it is, is just moves nicely and creates really nice fringe.

This is another great option. It is a 4mm single strand cotton, so it is pretty much as all-purpose as you can get.

There is also a larger, triple strand cotton cord, which would make really nice fringe but also great for macrame.

If you are just starting out or on a budget, there are options for you too! Your local craft supply store most likely carries cotton cord, although you will be limited on colors and sizes. Amazon is a valid place to buy budget cord. Below are my recommendations.

This cord is a best seller, comes in many colors and is a good all-purpose size.

This single strand cord also has many color choices and you can choose either 3mm or 5mm, also great for macrame but great for knotting in weaving or just anything you want to have a chunkier look.

This cord you have the choice of single or triple strand, in addition to sizes and colors.

Another option is braided rope. Personally, I wouldn’t use this in weavings but this works great for macrame.

Like mentioned in my previous post on resources, there are many sellers out there if you scour Etsy, Instagram and Amazon. I encourage you to do your own research. 4mm-5mm is standard for macrame, while larger widths work great for accents like fringe or creating chunk knots. Using triple strand rope lends a different look/style than single strand. Ultimately, everyone has their own preference for type; triple strand, single strand, etc. It really depends on the look/statement you are trying to create.

Happy creating!
